NANOTECH FLOOR FINISH
$ 16.89
NanoTech is the most carefully crafted and advanced non toxic floor finish available. Many of it's properties are unlike anything found in polyurethane or acrylic floor finishes. Qualities such as- excellent adhesion to most existing coatings, high bond strength, dynamic staining, fast drying with no detectable odor that night, crystal clear film, non yellowing, ability to apply thick films, void and crevice fill, very tough yet not brittle and super easy to apply.
Our chemically sensitive customers have used this product for many years with great results. It's often used to seal in toxic odors from other products. It works over most coatings so sometimes people use it to seal in other paint on cribs, floors and trim. It has even been used to block toxic odor from conventional oil based concrete porch and deck paint. NanoTech is used extensively on harsh exterior surfaces that either need deep staining or excellent wash-ability.
DYNAMIC STAIN QUALITIES: Making use of the principles of molecular geometry, NanoTech has a very dynamic use as a floor stain. It can do a broad range of floor staining that is nearly impossible to do with other products. When NanoTech is tinted the ability to stain the surface is remarkable, especially for light colors and for very dark colors. This is a valuable tool to help keep light toned woods from darkening or yellowing yet still provide a nice light stain hue. The other very useful staining quality is that it can hold and carry stain deeply into the wood fiber cell in a single pass.
For instance, if the project calls for a white oak with a light antique hue but it must stay very light toned, then NanoTech Antique Touch is perfect. The wood stays light underneath and the stain can penetrate and supply a subtle antiquing look. At the same time, if a project calls for a deep lacquer black floor finish, then NanoTech Years of Black can achieve this beautifully. It's very dynamic and flexible staining with unlimited artistic possibilities. One of our favorites is the Water Deep Blue since we've never seen a stain so bright on wood. Sample pints are a great way to experiment and find the perfect floor stain color for each persons taste.
USES: Floor Finish, Sealing in Odors, Increase Sheen and Reduce Stickiness on Existing Paints, Concrete, Exterior Trim and Siding.
THEORETICAL COVERAGE: Figure 600-800 Sft / gal on most hardwoods. Less on soft woods (approx 350-550). Apply 2-3 coats medium traffic. 4 coats high traffic. 5 coats gym floors and industrial applications. For wood floors with an oil finish look, apply at least 2 coats NanoTech over one buffed coat of Bio Poly NT or Mountain.
FIGURING STAIN COVERAGE: 500-1100 Sft / gal. NanoTech goes a long way as a stain. Most hardwood floors when stained will only require a small amount of NanoTech stain. Generally, we a spread rate of about 800 sft / gal for most stains. This will depend on the color, who is applying and how it is applied as well as the wood type and how porous that wood is. For instance if staining piece of rough siding the coverage may be less than 500 sft per gallon. But staining a Brazilian Cherry wood floor might get up to 1100 sft per gallon of stain. This wide variation requires some expertise to assess so The Ask Earthpaint tool may be helpful and Sample pints are always a good idea for testing in advance.
APPLICATION: Mop on multiple coats with a foam floor applicator pad or water based floor applicator. On concrete, roll with a 3/8" nap roller. Clean lint off new roller covers before using. NanoTech can be applied thick if desired. This will reduce dry time and coverage but it is one of the unique qualities of this product that it can be applied quite thick without wrinkling or cracking. Thickness of application should be tested in advance when creating a completed sample.
DILUTION: Not necessary.
DILUTION WHEN STAINING: Use water if desired for wood or concrete staining- 1 quart water to a gallon of NanoTech. This will slow the dry and make it easier to stain wood and concrete without lap marks. Remove one quart of product, add the water and then add the colorant container (after you dilute) if you want to insure exact color matching of each gallon.
CLEAN UP: Water
REGULAR CLEANING: Earth Clean and water.
RECOATS: As needed.
APPLYING OVER EXISTING FLOOR FINISH: NanoTech is often used to recoat existing floor finish. Sometimes it is not feasible to sand the floor raw and so a freshen up coat of NanoTech can beautify a floor and lock in unwanted toxins underneath. Lightly sanding first is the general rule to give the surface some "tooth" to bite into. Earth Clean is also in high concentration to give an extreme cleaning to the existing coating. While NanoTech bonds amazingly to nearly everything we try it on, it is always best to test first in advance, before coating an existing finish. There are too many different coatings and variables to say exactly how it will work without testing first.
LIMITATIONS: Do not apply to Tile that has a baked on finish. The surface must be absorbent enough for the nanopolymer to penetrate and bond structurally. Do not spray through a spray gun that has mineral spirits in the lines. The gun, the lines and even the filters in the gun itself must be clean. Earth Clean can be very handy when trying to eliminate oily substances from spray equipment or from surfaces being coated with NanoTech.
CONCRETE PREP: Prepare concrete best with concrete grinding method. If that is not possible then 2nd best is Muriatic Acid or Citric Acid to open the pores. If that is not possible then 3rd best is Earth Clean used full strength and scrubbed with a black pad on a floor machine. Keep the Earth Clean wet at least 30 minutes or longer and then rinse well, removing all micro dust.
CONCRETE DEGREASER: Use Earth Clean full strength to remove heavy grease. Allow the Earth Clean to soak into the concrete and grease then use a black stripping pad on a floor machine for fast cleaning. A high psi pressure washer can also be used.
APPLICATION: For driveways and exterior uses roll on 3-4 coats of NanoTech. For interior uses, rolling at least 2 coats is recommended. For large industrial applications a T-bar is often employed for application on concrete floors.
When the substrate is properly prepared NanoTech penetrates the inorganic structure providing very durable long lasting coating.
ANTI SLIP USING THE BROADCASTING METHOD:
1. Broadcast fine sand into the wet the coating. (usually applied between the 3rd and 4th coat)
2. Allow to dry. Sweep up any loose sand that didn't get locked into place.
3. Apply the final clear coat of NanoTech over the sanded coating.
Some people will pour sand into the paint bucket and roll it on. This almost always looks awful. Broadcasting (throwing evenly, fast, about 6 feet above the wet surface) is a much better looking and controllable method. Simply test outside in the yard before starting. You'll see the sand naturally spreads out evenly above the surface and lands into the coating uniformly. Once you get used to throwing an even spread, go for it. You are throwing over a wet coating, so even if a complete failure occurs, it is pretty easy to squeegee up the wet product and try again. This almost never happens, since it's a pretty easy thing to do. But practicing first helps.
NanoTech is used on busy retails shops, enormous warehouse floors, concrete driveways, it has even been used on swimming pools. However, proper prep is the key to all coating success. No matter what product is used. We recommend creating a completed sample (including prep work and all the finish coats) and comparing that to anything you might be considering. In most cases NanoTech is the perfect solution, especially where health concerns and return to service times are high priorities.
