CLEAR SKIES SATIN - Safe enough for Interior and Tough enough for Exterior! This is a beautiful and durable paint. A great wall and trim paint seals the surface firmly and Clear Skies Satin is very hard to beat in that respect. It sprays, rolls and brushes on with high hiding and coverage. Clear Skies Satin is a low odor coating that dries fast. Typically it is recoated or returned to service within a few hours.

The Ideal Sheen: Clear Skies Satin is formulated from years of experience to provide a uniquely effective sheen balance. It's not too glossy and not too flat. It throws light back into the room creating ambiance and this has some really neat effects when using deeper color tones. We have found that Clear Skies Satin can be painted on all the walls, ceilings and trim in one fell swoop and it still appears as if the trim is more shiny and a slightly different color than the walls. This is because the flat surface of the wall and the raised surface of the trim cause light to reflect differently, creating the look of more shine on the trim and less on the walls.

Builders: When painting a large home simple, single sheen feature of Clear Skies Satin can save a great deal of time and money. Homeowners love it because the walls get greater protection and the trim has a tough scrubbable paint. Builders love it because the house can be painted faster for less money and a tougher paint means less touch up. Of course, if the customer would like two tone ceilings and different color trim, then it's no problem.

CLEAR SKIES BACKGROUND: Back when Clear Skies was invented "Green" was just a color. Eco friendly wasn't a common term and many still denied scientific facts about the atmosphere. With so many paints now using "Zero Voc" for marketing it's nice to have a paint like Clear Skies that remains tried and true. We watch for things that say "Zero Voc" and then hide a cheap vinyl acetate resin, toxic additives or other voc exempt solvents that we wouldn't want around our own kids. That's the real test.

Many painters have appreciated the lack of hazardous ingredients in Clear Skies, especially no vinyl acetate resin. The pure non toxic acrylic resin in Clear Skies has been carefully crafted. It is over engineered to be super durable, way above the call of duty, not only because it's safer and better but also because it is more sustainable. Those who refuse to sacrifice safety and high performance to get the job done right, find that Clear Skies is the right paint to turn to.

Sample pints are recommended for creating a completed sample in advance.

ZERO VOC COLOR SELECTION

ZERO VOC COLORANT: Earthpaint has been at the forefront of zero voc colorants since our inception. The colors used to tint our paint are the safest, lowest odor, zero voc colorants we know of. The colors we use are mostly earth oxides.

NOTE ON COLORS & MIXING: Pints come pretinted. For Gallons and Fives the Colorant Containers are shipped separately. These are easily mixed into the product. The easiest way to do this is with a paint mixer attachment on a drill. These mixers are usually only a few dollars and available at any local hardware store. Colors can be stirred in with a stirrer stick but that will take longer. Some people prefer hand mixers or hand mixer beaters for mixing pint containers and smaller volumes.

Clear Skies can be taken to a local paint store and tinted, as desired. It can be custom tinted using any of our Colorant Containers. It can also be taken to a local paint store and tinted to a custom color. If tinted locally simply tell them to "Please, Tint as Pastel Base". This will give them the info they need to tint it and it will give you a fairly close color match to whatever pastel base or medium base color you choose. Darker colors will not be as accurate and we don't currently offer an ultra deep base for tinting the darker toned colors.

PRIMER: Lime Prime is usually the best primer to use under these paints for both exterior and interior purposes. For special situations it's always nice to be able to check the finish schedule with the Ask Earthpaint tool.

RAW DRYWALL: On raw drywall we figure 250-300 sft / gal

2nd COATS: Second coats or painting existing coatings we figure 300-400 sft / gal

POROUS SURFACES: Porous, textured surfaces like Pitted Metal, Concrete Block or Popcorn Ceilings we figure 150-200 sft / gal

SPREAD RATE BACKGROUND: The above estimates are based on experience. Theoretically, any coating rolled at a thickness of 4 mil will cover approximately 401.0 square feet per US Gallon. The roller nap, brush size, spray nozzle size and the person applying the coating will dramatically affect the spread rate of a coating. In general when coating a very porous surface 50% of the spread rate is deducted. When spraying a coating 10% of the spread rate is deducted for spray waste falling to the floor. Usually, an extra half gallon of product is required for the spray pump and the spray lines to work with. Some of this is lost when the sprayer is flushed cleaned.
