Wood Floor Finishing
Sample pints are recommended for testing before application to entire surface.
Suggested Approach for an Unfinished Wood Floor: (RAW WOOD.)
Low Traffic or Rustic Oil Finish Floors: (great for bedrooms)
- Bio Poly NT- Dilute 1 quart per gallon and Machine Buff x 2-4 coats.
- Looking Glass Beeswax Polish - Machine Buffed x 1 coat. (Optional)
Buff product into floor until the floor does not accept any further finish. On oak and hardwoods this will usually be 2 coats. On softer woods or reclaimed woods this may be 4 coats or more. It will depend on the floor and how thirsty it is for nourishment. It is best to saturate the wood fibers and give the wood everything it wants. This will extend life and increase beauty. NOTE: Do not mop Bio Poly on like a polyurethane. It is a penetrating oil and must be buffed into the surface. Do not leave on top of the wood surface. Buff in like waxing a floor or a car.
Medium to High Traffic Floors with an Oil Finish Look:
- Bio Poly NT - Dilute 1 quart per gallon and Machine Buff x 1 coat.
- NanoTech Semi Gloss Clear 00 x 2 or 3 coats.
High Gloss, High Traffic:
- Mountain, mopped x 4 or 5 coats. (Add one quart per gallon Citrus or Corn Solvent)
Satin Sheen Medium to High Traffic:
- Aqualine Satin, mopped x 2 to 4 coats
Satin Sheen with an Oil Finish Look:
- Bio Poly NT - Dilute 1 quart per gallon and Machine Buff x 1 coat.
- NanoTech Clear 00, mopped x 1.
- Aqualine Satin Clear 00, mopped x 1 or 2 coats.
Suggested Approach for Finished Wood Floors: (Previously coated surfaces that are NOT RAW WOOD.)
- Scuff the surface if possible with 120 Grit sandpaper.
- Wash with Earth Clean.
- NanoTech Clear 00, mopped x 1 to 3 coats. (Test a sample area first before proceeding.)
Wood Stain for Floors: The FIRST coat of any of the above products can be tinted as desired with wood stain. Top coats should always be Clear 00 so that the stain is protected by sacrificial layers of floor finish.
